Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has charged religious leaders in the state to pray for the continuous survival of the state in the face of the many challenges facing her.
The governor made the call through his special assistant on religious affairs, Rev Fr Ihedinike Chibueze during the retirement send off ceremony of the outgoing Owerri district superintendent of Assemblies of God Church, Rev Mishael O. Ashiele.
The event which took place on Saturday was held at the Owerri district headquarters of the church at Nekede, Owerri West LGA of Imo state. Gov Okorocha acknowledged that even though the state has made some giant strides, she still has a lot of challenges. According to him "Imo state is witnessing giant strides and some difficult times and this is the time to pray for the leadership in Imo state. We need your prayers."
Also, he said his administration is trying to do a lot for the people of the state but is confronted by challenges. "The state government is trying to do a lot more for the people of the state but is being criticised. Any leader that is not criticised is not a good leader," he said.

He, however, declared that his adminstration is not daunted by criticism because it's a sign of good leadership. The governor had earlier congratulated the celebrant for successfully completing his service as a pastor in the church.
"I congratulate you for your successful completion of your service in the lord. It is not easy for one to put in 43 years of devotion in the lord. It takes the grace of God for one to fulfill this task. Your achievement with the Assemblies of God Church Nigeria and Owerri district in particular is remarkable... On behalf of the people of Imo state I wish you happy retirement. May the good Lord bless and keep you," he concluded.
The occasion had other dignitaries present such as the General superintendent of the church, Rev Dr Chidi Okoroafor, the assistant general superintendent, Rev Ejikeme Ejim.
The general secretary and the treasurer of the church, Rev Dr Godwin Amaowoh and Rev Dr Vincent Alaje were also present.
Others include the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr Sam Onwuemodo, retired general superintendent of the church, Rev Dr Charles Osueke, district superintendents from other districts and officials of Owerri district presbytery among others.
Highlight of the occasion was the marching in of the celebrant and his wife followed by the their children and grand children in grand style.
